Actually, according to my research, there are actually two fathers of cell biology. George Palade, who died at the age of 95, is considered to be one of the founding fathers of cell biology.
Keith Roberts Porter, who died in 1997, is also considered to be a father of modern cell biology.

Dr. George Palade of California University, a Nobel laureate whose paper "work isolating, imaging and identifying the function of minute organelles within cells" catapulted him to be "the father of cell biology".
