Polysaccharides are complex carbohydrates made up of several monosaccharides

Literally: "multiple sugars" in Greek. One sugar molecule is a 5-6 carbon +1 oxygen compound bound into a ring. A polysaccharide is multiple sugars bound together in an end-to-end fashion with an oxygen in between each pair of "rings".
